Ipad- Genius Or Copy Cat?

I have a few good feelings about the Ipad that Apple just came out with. I suppose I will start with those first, just to keep people reading down to what I don’t like about it.

1. I think the new email feature is great especially for my business. We get hundreds of emails a day from clients, potential clients, people from india (goes right in the trash), etc. Sometimes it’s difficult to sort out all the mail. The IPad gives you the ability to review your mail in a quickly and organized fashion. I think it’s a great idea to have a full sized keyboard also – it’ll help when I’m typing all the emails!)

2. I love the fast, easy, and beautiful display to search the web. This product will be amazing when I go see clients. Now there is no reason to drag along my entire laptop because I can just bring this little display that is in between my iphone and laptop and it will do the same deed. Now all I have to do is find an application that will allow me to run word and edit documents (I know there are a few out there already and I’ve tried a few out but have not 100% liked any so far).

3. The new calendar feature is pretty cool and will help organize my day since I always have a million and one things to do. I think the new photo gallery features is pretty nifty also.

4. The book store looks really cool and if it is as easy as the other online stores (like itunes and app store) it will be a breeze. Right now on the Iphone kindle I have to go to a web page to buy my books and it’s really annoying. (One thing that I didn’t catch is if they are going to allow you to have that application on the iphone and allow you to have the books on both your Ipad and Iphone. Now that would be cool)

5. Of course you know apple always does it up with the display and multi-touch features, but the fact that you will be able to use Iphone applications on it is a pretty awesome feature!

6. Portable Television – You can now watch movies on the new Ipad which is pretty awesome!

Now – I just gave you all the features I liked about the Ipad, but what about what I don’t like… Believe me I’m sparing you guys with the entire list of things I hate about it.

1. It’s the same exact thing as the Iphone except its 5x the size (I don’t know the exact size). So what they changed a few applications. I don’t see that big of a difference!

2. I’m sorry but did anyone check the price of the Ipad? I thought that I was looking at a laptop. The funny part is if you watched the video the guy said “We thought this was going to be much more expensive but it starts at only $499.99!” – Go look at dell.com you can buy an entire laptop for that price.

3. Oh by the way AT&T users who have Iphone – Don’t think you are getting a discount on your data plan (after you purchase your Ipad for an extra 130 dollars just to get 3G).

4. The Ipad doesn’t have a camera nor does it have the ability to make phone calls. So the “Iphone on steroids” isn’t really the correct term.

5. The Ipad is still an LCD screen which isn’t going to be the best and easiest thing to read on as the Nook or Kindle that has the drab no light screen that is easy on the eyes.

6. The Nook and Kindle are able to stay on for weeks if needed. This is great for avid book readers who love to read because they won’t have to recharge it. The ten hours of battery life might not be long enough for those traveling across the world.

Those are my thoughts so far! But in all honesty if it wasn’t 500 dollars I would have gotten one, but I’m not going to spend that kind of money on a jacked up Iphone when I already have an Iphone.

Apple Ipad

After a series of speculations surrounding its new product, Apple finally launched the iPad. This device is a touchscreen tablet PC, which defines ultra-portability with a half inch thin body, a 9.7 inch display, and weighs a trifle 1.5 pounds. iPad will be available in 16, 32, and 64 GB memory specifications, with the host of connectivity options including Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi and optional 3G. An optional 3G will however cost you an additional $130. The pricing for Apple iPad will be $499 for a 16-gigabyte model, $599 for a 32 GB version and $699 for a 64-gigabyte model with Wi-Fi. Other major additions include a 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, as well as an accelerometer and a compass. The iPad further features a keyboard dock, which connects underneath in the portrait orientation and offers a manual keyboard, as typing on a touchscreen is a tedious task. Apple iPad runs on a custom 1GHz Apple “A4″ chip processor, which is a must have for this device boasting of multitasking. Before the launch of iPad, Apple said ” the device will be much more capable and portable than the modern laptops”, by integrating a 10-hour battery life and a month of standby, the software giant tries to prove its point ( the battery life of 10 hrs instead of the 4.5 or 5 hrs of a laptop, and undoubtedly it is ultra-portable). If we consider the features, iPad has more or less similar functions to the Apple’s popular iPhone or iPod Touch. For instance these devices share a common application store with almost identical applications. The only difference for the application part is that iPad is Apple is first device to use the iBookStore, an e-reader application. The iPad supports a resolution of 1024×768 for VGA out along with a 480p composite out through the dock adapter cables. A camera attachment kit is further integrated to import photos from your camera via USB or directly through an SD card reader. Considering the global launch of the device, Apple has integrated language support for English, French, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Russian. Now all that looks good huh!, but there’s a catch here. Apple iPad, a multitasking device that promises to deliver a superior web browsing experience, does not supports Flash- an integral part of almost 80% of the web pages online. So, how will be the so called good browsing experience achieved? Well, even we’re unsure of that. iPad + Camera Kit + USB Mic for recording

have a Ipad and I would like to use usb mic with it, but I do not know where can I find it. The best option would be a camera kit for ipad, is there any Camera kit for ipad. If you guys have one and you know what are the accessories of the kit then please let me know. Thank you for your help

Re: iPad + Camera Kit + USB Mic for recording
I know about a kit, the kit to connect a camera to the tablet seems incompatible with the Apple iPhone 3G. It is a pity that the USB / Dock allows you to connect other things that a camera, for example a wired keyboard. I have tried this kit with my iPhone, but do not know if it works with Ipad. I would like to test it with Ipad and see if it works, but for now I have not idea.

Re: iPad + Camera Kit + USB Mic for recording
Hello
I think iPad supports the USB audio and perhaps some devices via the USB port through Camera Connection Kit the iPad. It can run with many headsets and USB microphones, allowing users to make and receive VoIP calls with a standard USB headset. The USB keyboard also seems to work but this is not a surprise, given that the iPad already supports Bluetooth keyboard. You plan to use the Camera Connection Kit for something like that, or you plan to use it only for your webcam?

Re: iPad + Camera Kit + USB Mic for recording
Hello,
The iPad Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera: using your camera’s USB cable or directly from an SD card. iPad and the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW. I think you should go for it , it provides a good features which are very useful. If you need any more help regarding the specificproduct then you can post.

Re: iPad + Camera Kit + USB Mic for recording
Note that the iPad Camera Accessory Connection Kit supports the standard picture formats, but also a bit more specific formats such as JPEG and RAW. After making the connection with one of two accessories kit, your iPad will automatically open theapplication to be able to import photos and then store them in your photo albums. Then later by plugging your iPad your computer (MAC or PC), your photos on your Apple iPad will be added to your library.

Is the iPad the future of computing?

We got our hands on a 64GB iPad and decided to compare it to a current-model netbook – after all, these two devices are different ways of approaching the same market.

APPLE A1080 laptop battery

First, the price. There’s no doubt that the iPad is more expensive. Our perfectly capable Asus netbook cost us around £250; the iPad £599. That’s a bit of a blow – you could get a very decent laptop for that price, or two netbooks, although we grant you that you can get the basic iPad for just over £400.

Apple A1078 Laptop Battery

Battery life comes next. Our netbook claims around 11 hours’ use – and we can confirm that it’s not far off the mark. On a flight to New York, we used the netbook immediately after wheels up and until descent – for word processing. After around 6 hours continual use, there was almost 4 hours battery life left. Stunning. And the iPad? Well, it comes in at slightly less than that, but not much. Call it a draw.

Apple A1079 laptop battery

When it comes to weight, the iPad wins, being much lighter than the netbook. But things are not so straightforward – our in-flight test with the netbook also required that we carry e-books and music, so we had to add an iPod and a Kindle to the weight, and the whole package was getting on to be as heavy as a laptop. The iPad is just one device – but it can do the lot. OK, it’s not as good a book reader as the Kindle (because of the bright screen) but it’s capable. Hands-down winner, the iPad.

In use, things get a little more interesting (and less straightforward). The netbook was running Windows 7 and of course the iPad was running Apple’s iOS. Windows 7 gave us great application compatibility with Windows applications, but it proved to be a clunky workmate on a small machine. Despite having 1GB of RAM, it was slow to start, though mostly fine once it got rolling. The nature of the netbook and the basic version of Windows 7 Starter meant no Aero graphics, so you do feel like you’re getting a second rate experience. The iPad, in contrast, was always rapid – and we mean that. Not just quick, but rapid. With an OS that’s built from the ground up to be used on the hoof, and with your fingers, it’s surprisingly productive for most things.

But there’s a conceptual difference between the iPad and a netbook that’s not immediately obvious. The iPad is great for consuming media, it can be less good for creating it. It’s designed as a machine for use on the go, so it does less by design – and does things in a significantly different way. With the iPad, we used apps to create mind-maps, user interface mockups, presentations and so on – and it was great. But when it came to typing thousands of words, the netbook, with its real keyboard, was the winner. You can touch type on the netbook at close to your usual speed, but not on the iPad – in fact, not anything like it, unless you pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard or use the rather wobbly keyboard dock. But we’d still say the overall winner is the iPad – unless you need to write a lot. The OS is designed to be used on a mobile device, Windows is not. You can use the iPad OS comfortably at arm’s length, with the netbook you’re always, always squinting at the screen.

So, if you are writing vast amounts, take the netbook right? Well, possibly not if you also want to listen to music or read. Then, it might be better to compromise, take a Bluetooth keyboard and sacrifice a few words per minute for weight and flexibility.

(Now, before you e-mail us, we do know that you can read books on the netbook, using the Kindle application. You can also – just about – watch a film. But in both cases, a netbook is a very poor vehicle for doing these, whereas an iPad does them very well indeed. Films are stunning on the iPad’s screen.)

The iPad is also interesting in other ways. Computers have long been too complex for many mere mortals. The notion of a computer that works as simply as a (say) fridge or kettle has never been viable. Even one as simple as a VCR has been impossible. But the iPad is that device. It’s always on. There are few buttons. Little to learn. When you install an app, you don’t have to answer any questions that you might not understand; you don’t even have to know where the app is going to be installed. In fact, you never get sight of anything like a file system. That whole layer of complexity that IT professionals take for granted (and let’s face it can use with much greater ease than your Gran) simply isn’t there. Now that is how a mass-market computer should work.

There are flaws to the iPad. Famously, there’s no support for Flash, for instance. Steve Jobs may insist we don’t need it and that he knows best by not providing it, but we say ‘nonsense’. If we want Flash, we should have it – even if we accept that it saps the battery and can crash the browser. We’re grown-ups, we can make that decision ourselves. You also can’t print from it, although some apps that will enable printing are around the corner. It’s also difficult to use as your only machine – although you can buy direct from the Apple store for apps, music and so on. Syncing via iTunes is fine if you have one device, but if you also have an iPhone, it’s a fag to keep connecting each to sync things up – for goodness’ sake, it’s 2010 – go wireless!

We also had the iPad refuse to work when it had been left in the sun for too long – the black surround and glass screen is a real heat magnet. When we powered on, we got a ‘need to cool down, too hot to use’ error. But fair enough, it was a daft thing to do.

But with two million iPads sold within a few weeks, the product is a runaway success – one that no one, ever, has been able to create with any other tablet. The Google tablet, which is not far from release, will almost certainly be much cheaper – and Android 2 is pretty capable, if not quite as slick as iOS. We expect this type of device to become mainstream pretty rapidly. We also do think that it points the way to the future of computing – or at least certain types of computing. Less hassle, maintenance and knowhow really does mean a machine that almost anyone can pick up and use right away.
